Henderson Rallies From B-Main to 2nd Place in Alabama State Championship
(Seymour, TN) The Rusty Webb Racing team had a trying weekend in Phenix City, AL. Home of the historical “Alabama State Championship” at East Alabama Motor Speedway.
The team qualified 10th in group 3 which made them start in the 5th row of heat 3. The 22 immediately made passes coming to 5th in the 10 lap contest, in which 4 would transfer to the A-feature.
Starting from the pole of B-Main 2, Matt drove away from the field to a 2.452 second lead.
Prelim results would line the 22 up in the 18th position where it wouldn’t stay for very long. Running to the top 10 mid way through the race, Matt would give himself 27 laps from the middle restart to get towards the front. Ultimately getting a 2nd place finish.
“I just don’t like the fact I put my guys and equipment into that position. It’s one thing when it’s circumstances and that circumstance isn’t me not getting the job done, but I knew it was my fault and told them it was me when I got back to the trailer. No one said a word to me in bad way, we just dug in and got to work. Guys told me they had my back all the way.
Heat and B was pretty standard but that run to the front in the feature was probably pretty entertaining. I was throwing sliders from Atlanta at guys and to my knowledge I cleared them all. Just fun having the car to be able to maneuver well enough to make moves. Great job to Montana on the win.
Rusty trusts me with a lot of money when it comes to what he has invested in me and our team so to see him relieved and enjoying that tonight meant the world to me. He deserves good runs for everything he gives us to work with. Hopefully we can convert tonight’s speed into some wins.”
Rusty and the team will take a break and return to action at Talladega Short Track “The Hornets Nest” in October to re-capitalize on their forward momentum.
